About

The Extractive Industries Watch (EI Watch) is a web- portal which was designed to overview the extractive industries situation in Southeast Asia. Country profiles and specific issues of extractive industries in the region will be posted in this portal. The objective of this portal is to exchange knowledge between civil society, governments, business communities and others who have an interest in the governance of extractive industries. This portal is also expected to serve as a portal to exchange ideas and experience in dealing with extractive industries. While at the same time, this portal will try to empower the public to understand the extractive industries and its related issues in Southeast Asia.

An advanced understanding in the situation of extractive industries in the region will enable stakeholders to develop ideas, projects and programs which all aim to make sure that the society benefits from the revenues generated by the extractive industries sector.

The portal acknowledges the importance of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI), an international standard which promotes transparency of the revenue stream of extractive industries. Engaging civil society, business community and government agencies, the presence of this initiative will help each stakeholders to ensure that the revenue generated by extractive industries can be used for sustainable development, which will enable a broader community and society to get a share of the benefits.
