DENR proposes additional no-mining zones
MANILA, Philippines, April 13, 2012. Philippines Daily Inquirer. By Kristine L. Alave. —The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has recommended that the state declare nine sites as protected areas and nearly 200 other sites as tourism zones to protect them from mining claims and extractive activities.

TOKYO, Japan – Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., a major Japanese nickel producer, is looking to increase nickel supplies from New Caledonia, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands to make up for a potential supply shortage after Indonesia implements a ban on exports of unprocessed nickel from 2014.
